The PowderPuff Girl Question N°3...

Do you rely more on magazines or beauty blogs when it comes to what you purchase?

Years ago just looking at the cover of Vogue magazine was enough to know month to month, what was In at that very moment but now, I feel like it's a little all over the place.

These past two months I found myself buying Allure and the only pages I was truly interested about have been the ones mentioning new things in beauty, new makeup etc. and there haven't been that many to be honest. Is it because my bloguerette friends are posting fabulous articles? Yup I think it is!

Who needs a magazine that will only show you what the new beauty thing looks like when you can get a feel of what it really is like by ladies who have tried it? True there are many beauty bloggers out there who receive tons of products and simply "love" everything but there are those who will stay honest. They remain diplomatic about their comments/review but they just won't tell you to run out and buy whatever they are reviewing and when they do, well, if it's something you're interested about you just might want to squeeze a little extra out of you wallet because there's a good chance you're gonna love it as much as they do.

There are some items I've purchase just to fill my "blogging duties", my buddy Sara from Color Me Loud mentioned this not too long ago and it made me smile inside since I think that as beauty bloggers we've all done this at one time or another. Then there are the more coveted items that I will read about extensively before having a go at them. What can I say, I rely on my blog roll way more than on any magazine article and I think more and more brands are recognizing the power beauty bloggers hold. Hey, not long ago a Dior rep thanked me for the work I did! The work people! It is work but dang we do love it don't we?

So again, do you rely more on beauty magazines or do you think beauty blogs are more (or getting more) influential in what you chose to by?

I can't remember the last time I read a magazine to be honest... I'm also more into makeup than fashion, and there are just so many wonderful, honest blogs out there that I trust more!

I don't even buy magazines. It's like a whole book of advertisements! So I guess that answers your question :-)

Oh Lily the ads, the ads are so annoying!

I have an Allure magazine subscription which was a freebie from a Sephora purchase. I'm happy flipping it through every month but quality blog posts are the main trigger and source for my beauty purchase. Which is why many magazines branch out and ask us bloggers to contribute our contents on their web space. :)

Hey Lena, I too enjoy flipping through the pages but I realise I end up only looking at the pictures and don't really read the articles, I prefer a good blog post! :)

I read magazines I get free by exchanging airline miles from time to time! I need to stop doing this though since they just pile up and up and up unread and end up in the recycling bin.
I always find bloggers have the best information (pre-release) as well as informative reviews that really illustrate a real person's experience with a product. Beauty blogs forever!

Freebies are good aren't they? That's the thing, when I buy a magazine I can't seem to bring myself to throw it away once I'm done, I guess I'm a hoarder! :(

I find it easier and more trustworthy to check the products on beauty blogs. It's interactive so you can always ask additional questions and beauty bloggers always try to go over everything in detail which is great for us:)
Although I do go through fashion magazines as I'm always on the lookout for new inspiration and want to see what's trending in their world and besides, you can also find some great photography inspiration there also.

Oh Helena you are so right! The interraction makes all the difference! :)

I only read Vanity Fair and I always skip the beauty section! lol. It's just full of products that I've seen on blogs and they just repeat what the press releases say anyway.

Instead, I always check out blogs before buying something. Their reviews are informative and detailed and they often show swatches or how the products look when applied. Much more useful! :)

Now Gio Fanity Fair is probably my all time favorite magazine because they do have great articles. :)

I don't rely on magazines. In fact I don't subscribe or bought any for awhile. The internet is faster.

As for believing bloggers, well you know you have opened a completely different arena for me. Put it this way, if the blogger has integrity and is willing to honor and respect the beauty blogging community, then I would most likely respect and honor their opinion on some product.

Oh Olivia there are so many blogs out there that are phony but when you find the ones that speak to you and are honest then they are great ressources. :)

Oh blogs for sure! I stopped trusting what magazines write a long time ago. I'd rather rely on my fellow beauty bloggers :-)

Hello Icaria,
My beauty bloggers are all I need. I gave up my magazine subscriptions when I realized the products they were touting were from beauty company's that paid for a stellar write-up. One too many and failed "Allure's Best Beauty Product of the Year" was enough to turn me off from the whole lot. Have you read In Style lately...one big fat advertising publication. Viva Beauty Bloggers!!! The good ones at least :) Great topic!

I've been feeling bad about magazines lately. They just seem to pile up on my table in the hallway. I used to read Allure, Lucky & Vogue religiously. Now I only read them, even tho' I already own them, at the hair salon!

Beauty blogs all the way for me, I would very rarely take a recommendation from a magazine these days!

Stacey, magazines are mainly for the pretty pictures these days but then again some #bbloggers are so talented in that area that I look at product pics in a very critical way now, in magazines I mean. :)

I've stopped buying magazines, its just not a reliable, honest viewpoint, instead I rely on my favourite trusted blogs for information/reviews xx

Clare, blogs have become such a great source of information that I don't see myself buying another magazine anytime soon! :)
My recent post The PowderPuff Girl Question N°4...
i have always liked allure because they detail makeup used in every editorial photo. That being said, i still have a subscription and i have hardly read any of it :( but that is mostly because i read blogs first and can't keep up!! i definitely trust blogs way more than magazines though :)
