Rimmel Gentle Eye Make Up Remover / Review...

After two uses, this little bijou has become total HG! Talk about a cheap thrill!

Rimmel London Gentle Eye Make Up Remover...

Due to some recent major "spoiling myself" purchases I didn't want to spend $30,00 for an eye makeup remover. In the past I've used L'Oréal, the little blue bottle and even Walmart's Equate brand and both are fairly similar. That was a few years back and I remembered that towards the end they were getting less effective. I don't thing their respective formulas changed, I think it was more the makeup I started using. They didn't do so well on more tenacious makeup.

I was thinking about getting Clarins but like I said, the price was clearly a deterrent. I even considered Sephora's for a moment and I may still try it eventually especially since they have a small size for $9,00.

I went to the drugstore to get a replacement to my Rimmel concealer and looked more closely at this little bottle. Less than $7,00 for 125 ml? Why not?

How did I use it?

I drenched two little cotton pads and applied to my eyes, pressed gently as if they were compresses. Waited about 10/20 seconds and gently rubbed. Everything came off like a breeze!!!

I had on, NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base, NARS eye shadows, L'Oréal Infaillible gel liner and Dior Iconic mascara which is kind of stiff and can be hard to remove. It also did great with Chanel Illusion d'Ombre. I have Fatal and this eye makeup remover left no glitter behind, nada!

Talk about a cheap thrill!

Do I recommend Rimmel Gentle Eye Make Up Remover? Oh yes!

It states on the bottle that it's good for waterproof makeup. It clearly does well with tenacious makeup but I haven't tried with a truly waterproof mascara so I can't comment but according to some reviews I've read it may not be that effective. What I loved the most about this little unpretentious product is that it doesn't leave any residue behind like some bi-phase formulas do. The last one I had was Lancôme and I always had to use a  micellar water to make sure no oil would get in my eyes. I tend to be very sensitive to this.

This eye makeup remover has no smell and kind of feels like water but do keep in mind that we are all different and so the risk of irritation is there. This is true for any product used on the eye area wether it's makeup or eye care. Example, Clarins regular eye makeup remover gets lots of love but it burns my eyes, on the other hand I can use Marcelle's micellar water with no issues in the eye area but some can't.

So if you don't want to spend a lot on an eye makeup remover, actually even if you do, give this one a try it's truly worth it. I know I will always keep back ups of it myself.

Reviews:

Makeup Alley: 3.6 / 5 lippies for 386 reviews.
Beauté-test: I found no reviews for this product.

The negative reviews were mainly for it's lack of effectiveness for waterproof mascara and eye irritation.

What's your favorite eye makeup remover?

Hey Helene, I'm glad to hear this works so well! I prefer to go budget when it comes to eye makeup removers as well. I've tried higher-end ones as well as budget-friendly ones, and truth be told most of the time there isn't that much of a difference. You definitely made a good call getting this one!

Thanks Sunny! This one really took me by surprise and you're right about the formulas. Not much difference between high end and drugstore so why pay more? :)

My favourite drugstore eye makeup remover is from Biore, and it actually works just as well as the Lancome Bi-facil - at a third of the price!

Oh Lily I don't think we have that one here. We have Bioré but not all the products but I'll have a look because I do want one for waterproof mascara. Since I don't wear one often I don't want to spend much on a remover. Thanks for the rec! :)

Oooh I have not heard of or seen this one--REALLY hope its available in-store somewhere close by. I really want to try it now! I have always gone the drugstore route when it comes to eye makeup remover. Things like that and face wash, I like to save on since I go through so much and would rather spend my money on "fun" products anyway :P

I have always used Neutrogena's Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover which, I think, is almost exactly the same as Lancome's Bi-Facil. It takes a lot of product and elbow grease to remover waterproof mascara though, so I've been curious about trying other brand's offerings. Definitely am going to hunt this one down. Thanks for telling us about this, Helene!

Oh Becca you're welcome, I do hope you can find it and it'll probably be even cheaper for you in the States. Ikwym about "fun" products, cleansers are not part of that. I've heard a lot about Neutrogena but have yet to try it. :)

This is my eye makeup remover, too! I like it much better than Neutrogena's Oil-Free Makeup Remover. In fact, I even like it better than my long-time favorite, Maybelline Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover. I was turned on to it by a couple of 13 year olds when I was moderating a makeup shop-along project this past summer (I'm a market researcher/focus group moderator). It's da bomb!

Yay Allison, I'm glad you too are a convert! This past year I haven't had much luck with my drugstore purchases but this one is definitely a keeper. 13 yr olds! Well I'm not surprised! That Essence makeup has to come off somehow! :D

Wow, you have an amazing memory to remember my essence comments (yes, I still love I Love Crazy Extreme Volume mascara lol)!

This sounds great! I would recommend using virgin coconut oil to remove waterproof or any eye makeup that's hard to remove - I love it as it just melts the makeup off, and it also acts as a nighttime eye moisturizer :)

Thanks Natalie! Coconut oil is one of my favorite body moisturizer but I can't use it on my eye area. For some reason oil always gets in and irritate my eyes (that's any oil) but you're right, for those who can use it it's a great one for moisture as well. I personally love 1 tsp of it in my morning coffee! :)

I like this one too, although, I do use a different eye makeup remover for waterproof. I am on my 39th bottle. Okay not quite but I use this as an eyeliner sealant more than anything else
