This little bottle has been under my radar for a bit now. Except for when I wear waterproof mascara I always use my micellar water for eye makeup but still wanted to try this one especially since it's my bloggerette friend Stacey's favorite. She swears by it and probably has three or four backups somewhere. :)
Just so you know, I don't have sensitive eyes. Most of the time I can use my facial cleanser on my eye area with no issues. Even recently with Nivea's highly fragranced foam cleanser there were no reactions whatsoever so I was sure this eye makeup remover would work like a charm.
Simple Eye Make-Up Remover...
It comes in a standard transparent bottle with a convenient snap on cap. I did detect a faint fragrance but nothing to be concerned about.
How did it perform? Poorly.
The eye makeup I wore, Rimmel Concealer, Bobbi Brown eye shadows, L'Oréal Infaillible Lacquer Gel Liner and the two different mascaras.
The first evening I had L'Oréal Voluminous Million Lashes Excess mascara on and it was a pain! I had to drench my cotton round and even if I did spray a little Avène Thermal Water on first and did a compress-like light pressure on my eyes, it took forever to remove everything. I have read that some find this L'Oréal mascara hard to remove but still what was most annoying about the process is that my eyes burned! I can't even remember the last time this happened to me, they were super irritated and red by the time I was done.
The second evening I tried it again but with Benefit They're Real! mascara. Again it smeared the mascara all over the eye area but a little less than with L'Oréal. This time I was careful not to get any in my eyes but it still burned, a little less than the previous night but enough for me not to use again.
Do I recommend Simple Eye Make-Up Remover? Sadly based on my results, no.
I've never had issues in the past with eye makeup removers, Clinique, Estée Lauder, Lancôme, Dior where all good but one of my absolute favorites was L'Oréal, the one in the small light blue bottle. I will likely try others for review purposes but I believe if you have and use a good micellar water you don't really need an extra product. That's if you don't wear waterproof mascara of course. Read about the ones I've reviewed so far, here.
So this means that what's HG for me may not be for you and vice versa. As mentioned at the top of this review, Stacey from Expat Make-Up Addict raves about Simple Eye Make-Up Remover. It's always on her repurchase list because it does what she wants it to do beautifully. In other words it's not because it didn't work for me that it won't work for you.
