Estée Lauder Sumptuous Bold Volume Lifting Mascara / Review

I'm not sure but I think the very first time I ever wore mascara it was probably one from Estée Lauder. It was my mom's and it was a beautiful gold tube with an applicator that looked like a metal screw not a brush. Brown was the color. It was quite a revelation and when I discovered what an eye lash curler could do... Boom! I was all set!

For years I wore Clinique's Naturally Glossy Mascara, still in production. I then moved on to Lancôme and Dior. Along the way I of course tried several drugstores options and did use L'Oréal Voluminous as well as Double Extend for a while.

In all that time, I don't think I've ever purchased a Lauder mascara, even when I was working as a makeup artist for them. Weird!

Sumptuous bold Volume is THE mascara for me so far. The first time I tried it was when I received a small size in a Gift With Purchase. I was so pleased that I bought the full size. For a few years before that I had been using Avon mascaras. Super Shock one of their best sellers, did nothing for me.

Why is it THE mascara for me? Because it holds the curl!

I have mentioned before that my lashes are not only super straight but tend to point downward. Even warming the lash curler with the blow dryer was sometimes not enough. I've finally figured out that the mascara was the problem.

This Estée Lauder's has become a favorite. I do own a few mascaras and will likely continue to try other brands, in fact I've asked for suggestions recently on MakeupAlley's Makeup Board as I'm starting to consider water proof formulas. It would appear that we will get a little more snow this winter and a regular formula is not practical when you're stuck outside shoveling snow in the middle of a storm. :(

Still, I will always have a Sumptuous Bold Volume Mascara in my makeup kit. When I take the time to curl my lashes, they stay that way for a good 8 hours if not more, even in super humid weather. This is definitely an outstanding product for me.

Another mascara with which I had good results is LUSH Eyes Right Mascara to which I gave a rave review last August. Why did I not repurchase? The formula is quite thin and takes longer to dry. To get the same results as one coat of Sumptuous, I have to apply 3 of LUSH and have to wait for it to dry in between. Not practical when you're in a rush.

Would I recommend this mascara? Yes!

In fact, it's one of the few products I've reviewed on MakeupAlley to which I gave a perfect score of 5 / 5 lippies. For me it's that good. At $25.00 it may be on the expensive side for some but if you have the same issues as me, it's worth the price.

Reviews:

MakeupAlley: 4 / 5 lippies for 245 reviews.
Beauté-test: 4.2 / 5 stars for 73 reviews.
